My name is L.K. Kuhl and I am a new author from Kearney, Nebraska. I’ve been married to my best friend, Gene, for twenty-nine years. We have three wonderful children: Brittani, Morgan, and Nathan and one awesome son-in-law, Trevor. Greg the dog, is our other son, and we have two grand-dogs, Bentley and Lola.
I began writing over twenty years ago when my girls were little. I started dabbling in children’s books but never got too serious until about two years ago when I began trying my hand at full-length novels. In between writing children’s books and novels, I wrote numerous poems and songs.
When I wrote my first novel, Chasing Butterflies, it was unbelievably hard. After about a week, I threw in the towel and gave up. But for some reason, the thought of not finishing it ate at me. I was very close to this book and it meant a lot to me. I couldn’t just let it lie. Ideas and scenarios kept playing over in my head about what I wanted to, what I needed to, write about. So, I dug it back out of the drawer and began again. I sent if off to agents and publishers and got rejection after rejection. After getting so many of these dream-crushing letters, I finally realized that although I loved this book, it just wasn’t up to publishing potential.
I started on book number two, which is now my debut novel, Everlasting. It is a YA Paranormal Romance novel. By now, I was addicted to writing and that’s all I wanted to do. I figured whether it gets published or not, I still wanted to write. Everlasting went through a lot of rejections also and, after so many, I put it away, thinking it was doomed too.
I wrote my third book, Chasm. It is an Adult Suspense novel told from a dual POV. I just finished it up in June of 2015 and began querying it. Again, those nasty little letters came pouring in. But, later in the month of June I participated in a couple of twitter pitch parties. I had three or four publishers requesting the manuscript, and I was beyond excited. In my queries I also had a bit more interest, some of them requesting the full. I felt like I was getting closer.
I still wasn’t hearing much on my books, but in August, Stephanie from Clean Reads requested both Everlasting and Chasm from a twitter pitch party. I was still expecting a no because it seemed to be the norm with everything I’d sent so far.
The good news finally came on September 21, 2015 at around ten p.m. Stephanie offered me a contract on both Chasm and Everlasting. I am beyond excited!
Everlasting will be the first to be released, with Chasm to follow. They both should be out sometime in 2016 but no tentative dates yet.
The moral of my story is to never give up. If you have a dream and something you love to do, don’t let it die. Always keep striving and reaching for that goal because someday it will happen. If I can do it, anybody can!
